Nintendo To Show New Wii At E3 This Summer
63It's official, Nintendo has announced they will, in fact, be debuting a new game console this summer at E3.
(For those who don't know, E3 is an “Electronic Entertainment Expo.“ It is a trade show were computer, video games and related products are showcased.)
Up 'till now there have been rumors circulating the internet but none had been confirmed by Nintendo. That all changed today according to a Fox News story.
Nintendo did not answer any of the circulating rumors. Instead, the CEO Satoru Iwata told a news conference, "As for the details of exactly what it will be, we have decided that it is best to let people experience it for themselves at E3,"
So although we can be sure the new Nintendo prototype will be revealed, we have no idea as to what speculations have been correct. We can, however, continue to guess at it and here are some of the highly possible rumors.
Full 1080p High Definition (HD) support.
That it will have higher performance parts than its competitors, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
That it will be backwards compatible with the current Wii's games and remotes.
That it will have a new controller with possible screen attached.
It will cost more then the current Wii at its launch, which was $250.
There are countless other rumors but I will not post them in this article because I don't believe they hold much merit. Should there be some that I have forgotten I will edit this post to include them.
I know there are "sources" that have confirmed some of the 5 theories I listed above but until Nintendo officially confirms or denies a rumor I don't want to say it's anything more than speculation.
My own price estimate is $300-350 because of the fact that it will be close to or above the specs of the current generation consoles and they were originally at this estimated price range. The PlayStation 3 actually tops in at a higher price but it does include a Blu-Ray player which is also a theory for this new Nintendo console.
The one thing I want to add in closing is that although I do like and own a Nintendo Wii, it doesn't impress me that people are saying the new console will have higher specs than the Xbox 360 and PS3 because it will be a higher generation system, so it should have higher specs.
The
real question remains – when will Sony and Microsoft show their
next generation systems? There have been rumors of a possible 2014 announcement or release for both of these developers.
